Dyschezia is also known as false constipation. Dyschezia is sounded like a scary health-related condition for the newborn baby. But it’s not a serious health condition.

What Is Dyschezia?


The parents who have newborns babies, then they have seen their children go through these stages. Dyschezia is referring to excessive stool straining.

It is the most common problem of the newborn’s babies and the subtle difficulty for the toddlers to being toilet trained.

Having a soft bowel movement then it means your newborn is suffering from Dyschezia.

The stool is soft during dyschezia. When the baby is crying for 20 or 30 minutes, then the baby’s poop faces turn red. The babies poop faces can be when a baby scrunched up the nose with grunting. Or when he makes grumpy brows or pouty lips, show a look of relief or happiness or far-off gaze.

This will scream in the pain and after that the defecates, during this baby pass out a soft stool and there is no blood.  

Apart from infantile dyschezia, there is also dyschezia in adults who faces infrequent bowel movement or hard poop. Sometimes, this is called by the name as constipation in adults for adults & constipation in babies for newborns.

What Causes Dyschezia?

If your child has uncontrolled stool reflexes and the muscles of the anus do not relax, both of these are due to Dyschezia. Because of this, babies grunt because they cannot have a bowel movement. Dyschezia in infants is very common and you can easily treat it at home. Therefore, always make sure that your baby’s muscles are relaxed so that the stool comes out soft.

Here are some common causes of infant dyschezia –

1. Formula

The protein component that presents in the formula milk causes constipation or dyschezia in your baby and makes them straining to poop.

Sometimes also changing the brand of formula with other ingredients can become a reason.

So, if your baby not popping then consult with your doctor before giving the formula to the baby. 

2. Solid Foods

So, it’s better to start with a small portion and give them fiber-rich food to avoid constipation. 

3. Dehydration

Why Newborn Not Pooping?

If the baby is pooping regularly every day, then it’s a sign that your baby is properly absorbing nutrients and paste the waste material through the stool.

But when your newborn is not popping properly or poop is hard or sometimes a baby has frequent loose stools then it’s mean your baby is suffering from dyschezia.

Why Do Some Babies Have A Hard Time Pooping?

This is seen that a baby cries when pooping but poop is soft or baby straining & crying but not constipated. Like an adult, your baby needs to learn how to poop. As your baby grows, its muscles and nervous system have been developed. If your baby cries 20 to 30 minutes with straining & draw soft poop so it is known as infant dyschezia. In dyschezia, some babies can grunt, scream or become red before pooping.

1. Laxatives: Medicine that can soften the stool of the baby and add weight to the stool, this will help your newborn baby poop. 

2. Stumiltes: Drugs that boost the activity of the gut in the baby and also increase the bowel movement, this will help to get rid of dyschezia. 

3. Disimpaction Therapy: It is a medical treatment. This treatment will involve the clearing of the gut in one week to resolve this issue.

According to one study, the children who were massaged twice a day for 15 minutes for 14 days, had an increased number of defecations.

With the help of the fingertips, give your baby a massage in a circular motion on the stomach. Walking around the baby navel in the clockwise pattern for the relief of dyschezia.
